4 Sancerre whites, 2 Sancerre reds and 1 Sancerre rosé are produced from the domain’s reputed limestone, clay-limestone and flint “terroirs”.
The "DOMAINE DU CARROU" is located in the village of BUÉ, one of the 14 communes of the SANCERRE appellation.
From generation to generation, since the 17th century, the ROGER family has been producing Sancerre wines.
Dominique ROGER currently exploits an area of 11.30 hectares. Bué has always enjoyed a high reputation due to its complex and exceptional "terroirs".
These soils transmit a strong identity and purity of expression to the 7 cuvées of the domaine.
Today, the domaine is certified
level 3 HVE (High Environmental Value).
The family estate is made up of 22 plots, located mainly in Bué but also in the neighbouring communes of Sancerre, Crézancy and Vinon: 7.9 hectares are planted with Sauvignon Blanc (Sancerre blanc) and 3.4 hectares with Pinot Noir (Sancerre rouge and rosé).
The winery is located on the Place du Carrou which gives its name to the domaine.
Dominique ROGER is a passionate craftsman who takes meticulous care in the vinification and ageing of his Sancerres at every stage.
His motto is: “No great wine without excellent grapes”. This is why at Domaine du Carrou, the vines are cultivated with respect for the environment and the microbial life of the soil.
Grass grows between the rows and the land is worked with care. Yields are managed to allow optimum maturity of the fruit.
When necessary buds are removed in spring to reduce the number of bunches, and leaves are thinned throughout the summer.
This constant quest for perfection continues at harvest time when the hand-picked bunches are individually selected on the sorting table.
The winery has its origins in the 18th and 19th centuries, and now consists of the original vaulted cellar and associated buildings with modern extensions built in 1986 and 2014, the whole well sheltered by walls partly buried in the limestone hill behind.
It is here that all the wines of Domaine du Carrou are produced and matured

Our gite “Anthocyane” is named for the molecule which gives red wine its colour.
We have sympathetically renovated a stone-built winemakers cottage which overlooks the domain, the village of Bué and the vine-covered hillside beyond.
